The US is on the verge of its 22nd government shutdown in five decades, as Congress has until 30 September to pass legislation to avoid it. If a shutdown does occur, unless it lasts for an extended time, it should not affect the US economy much and should not bring much additional volatility to the markets as this has been the case historically.
